The Return of Edgar Berlanga

This Saturday night, June 25th, the Hulu Theater inside the Madison Square Garden will once again come alive as fans eagerly await the return of Edgar 'The Chosen One' Berlanga, the self-proclaimed "Monster" of the boxing world. Berlanga, who boasts a record of 20-0 with 16 KOs, will step into the ring against Jason Quigley, who has a record of 20-2 with 14 KOs, in a fight promoted by Matchroom Boxing and streamed on DAZN.

The big question on everyone's mind is what version of Berlanga will show up on fight night. Will it be the knockout artist who scored an impressive sixteen straight knockout victories with his ferocious offensive style, or will we see a more cautious and defensive version of the fighter who suffered the first knockdown of his professional career in a fight against Demond Nicholson in April 2021? The Nicholson fight exposed some of Berlanga's defensive flaws, and in his next three fights, he went the distance, failing to produce his usual highlight-reel knockouts. Berlanga is now keen to prove himself to the Puerto Rican community and become their next big star.

In the other corner, Jason Quigley is a fighter who made his name while fighting under the Golden Boy Promotions banner and collecting wins in Southern California. After losing to Demetrius Andrade in November 2021, Quigley disappeared from the scene until April, when he scored a decision over Gabor Gorbics. Despite his impressive record, Quigley is 32 years old, and with the back half of his career looming, he knows he needs to deliver a big performance against Berlanga to keep his career alive.

Quigley is a smaller super middleweight, so the size difference will be noticeable, but it won't deter him from giving his best effort. To stand a chance of winning, he needs to be smart and box Berlanga from the outside, taking care not to stay in the pocket too long. However, if Berlanga feels his power early on, it could spell trouble for Quigley. So, can Quigley pull off an upset on Saturday night? Only time will tell, but one thing is for sure: Berlanga will be looking to make a statement and continue his unbeaten streak.
