Prograis edges split decision against Zorilla

Regis Prograis, the reigning WBC super lightweight champion, managed to keep hold of his title after a gruelling twelve-round fight against Puerto Rican opponent Danielito Zorrilla. The highly anticipated match took place at the Smoothie King Center in Prograis' hometown of New Orleans.

From the outset, the crowd was on their feet, cheering on their champion. Prograis, who is known for his aggressive style, was looking for an early knockout. However, Zorrilla was not intimidated and kept his distance, using his quick footwork to evade Prograis' punches.

The first round saw a debatable knockdown, which the referee ruled as a slip. This gave Prograis the early advantage, but Zorrilla was quick to recover and continued to move around the ring, making it difficult for Prograis to land his punches.

Prograis managed to drop Zorrilla in the third round with a big left hand, but Zorrilla quickly got back up and continued to fight. This was a turning point in the match, as Zorrilla became more elusive, and Prograis had to adjust his strategy accordingly.

The fight turned into a battle of strategy and study, with both fighters taking their time to throw punches. Prograis was trying to press the action, but Zorrilla was sticking and moving, trying to counterattack whenever he could.

As the rounds progressed, Prograis began to show signs of frustration. He was not able to land his punches as he wanted, and Zorrilla's strategy was proving effective. Prograis was also feeling the pressure of fighting in his hometown, which he later admitted made him nervous.

In the end, Prograis emerged victorious in a split decision, with two judges scoring the fight 118-109 and 117-110 in his favour, while the third judge scored it 114-113 for Zorrilla. After the bout, Prograis expressed his disappointment with his performance, admitting that he had to go back to the gym and work on some things.

He credited Zorrilla for putting up a good fight, saying that he was stronger than he had anticipated. He also acknowledged that Zorrilla's elusive style made it difficult for him to land his punches.

Overall, the fight was a testament to the skill and determination of both fighters. Prograis managed to retain his title, but Zorrilla proved that he was a worthy opponent. The crowd at the Smoothie King Center was treated to an exciting match, and both fighters received a standing ovation for their efforts.
